Three generations of grandmas, my grandmother, my mother and myself, have been making these dumplings, thus the name. Even though my grandmother is no longer with me, and my mom doesn’t cook anymore, I still make them. I normally make them whenever I make soup or stew but I really like them best with some butter and pepper.
I cannot remember the exact count but I think I get around 30 to 50 dumplings in a batch.
Ingredients:
2 cups of flour
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
milk
Mix things up:
Mix the flour, salt and baking powder together. Beat the two eggs and add enough milk to them to equal 1 cup of liquid. Mix all of the ingredients together.
Now we’re cooking:
Bring a pot of water (add some salt to the water) to a boil.
The easiest way to work with the dough is to use 2 teaspoons. Take a small amount of dough on the tip of one teaspoon, about 1/4 up the tip of the spoon, and push it off in to the boiling water with the other spoon. Be sure not to crowd the pot or you will end up with one big dumpling.
After boiling for 4 to 5 minutes the dumplings will puff up. Take the dumplings out of the water with a slotted spoon and put them in a colander or sieve to drain.
Yield: 75 dumplings.
Time to eat:
Add them to soup or stew or eat them all by themselves with some butter and pepper.
Enjoy!
